Web design for photographers that lets your style do the selling

People book a photographer off a feeling — they see your images, fall for your style, and want their own to look like that. Your website's whole job is to give them that feeling instantly, then make enquiring effortless.

A photographer’s website is unusual, because the words on it barely matter. You can write “capturing your special moments” all day and it won’t move anyone. But one stunning frame — the light just so, the moment caught, a couple laughing in a field at golden hour — does the whole sell in a heartbeat. Your images are the pitch. My job is to build a site that puts them front and centre, makes them load fast and gets out of their way.

Your portfolio is the product

The images are what people are buying. A photographer’s site isn’t a brochure with a gallery bolted on — it’s a gallery with just enough around it to make booking easy. So I build yours images-first: big, edge-to-edge, beautifully framed, the very best of your work leading every page. The moment someone lands, before they’ve read a word, they should feel your style and think, “yes — that’s what I want mine to look like.”

Beautiful and fast — you don’t get to pick one

Here’s the trap every photographer’s site falls into. Hundreds of gorgeous high-res images make the thing crawl, and a portfolio that takes five seconds to appear loses the visitor before the first photo even loads. Slow kills bookings, and it quietly drags your Google ranking down too. This is the part I genuinely enjoy: serving your images so they look immaculate on a big screen and a phone alike, but arrive in an instant. Proper compression, modern formats, lazy loading below the fold. You get the beauty and the speed, not a grubby compromise between them.

Sell the style, not a service list

Nobody chooses a photographer off a bullet list of packages and deliverables. They choose off how the work makes them feel. So your words stay out of the way of your images — short, warm and in your own voice, there to carry the practical bits once someone’s already fallen for the look. The pictures do the persuading; the copy just answers the questions that come after, calmly and without a hint of hard sell.

Give each genre its own room

Weddings, newborns, family sessions, headshots, commercial — these aren’t the same customer, and a couple planning their day doesn’t want to scroll past corporate headshots to find your ceremonies. So I split your work into clear galleries, each leading with its strongest frames, so whoever lands sees proof of exactly the thing they came for. Everyone gets the work that speaks to them first, which is a far stronger nudge than a jumbled mix they have to sift through themselves.

Make checking a date effortless

For most photography the enquiry is a quick, low-pressure “are you free on the 14th of June, and what do your packages look like?” So I keep it simple — a friendly form that catches the date, the genre and a line about what they’re after, with room to say roughly where. Enough for you to reply properly, never so much that it kills the moment. The easier you make that first message, the more of them you get.

Built by me, and yours to keep

You deal with me start to finish — no account managers, no juniors, no jargon. I plan it, build it and look after it, and at the end the site and the domain are yours, with no lock-in. From £249 as a fixed price agreed up front. And once the site’s turning admirers into enquiries, if you’d like more people finding your work in the first place, that’s where the SEO side comes in — but a fast, gorgeous portfolio that converts the visitors you already get is the sensible place to start.

Questions

The things people usually ask

I've already got hundreds of images — can you still make the site fast?
That's the whole craft of it, and it's the bit I most enjoy. Big, beautiful photos are exactly what makes most portfolio sites crawl, but with proper compression, modern formats and lazy loading, your images can look razor-sharp on a big screen and a phone alike and still load in a blink. You don't have to choose between gorgeous and fast — you get both.
Do I need a separate website for each type of work I shoot?
No — one site, with a clear gallery for each genre. Weddings, newborns, family, headshots, commercial: they're different customers, so they get their own space, each leading with its strongest images. A couple planning a wedding sees weddings; a business owner after team headshots sees headshots. Everyone lands on the work that speaks to them, without wading through the rest.
Can people book or check my availability on the site?
For most photography I'd keep it enquiry-led rather than a rigid booking widget. People want to check you're free on their date and get a feel for you before they commit, so I build a simple, warm form that catches the date and the gist. That first message is part of what they're buying — a real reply from you beats an automated calendar for bespoke work.
What does it cost?
From £249 as a fixed price, agreed before we start — a fraction of agency money, and the site and domain are yours to keep with no lock-in. Got a huge back catalogue and a lot of galleries to build out? I'll quote it plainly up front, no surprises.
